Soundcloud Souvenir – Favourite Sons

11 Oct

I am pleased to be sharing this group with you for my very first SC Souvenir.

Favourite Sons is based out of Brooklyn, NY and is made up of Justin Tripp, Matthew Werth, A.J. Edmiston, and Ken Griffin (formerly of Rollerskate Skinny). They have recently released their sophomore album, the Great Deal of Love which has been on HEAVY rotation here at Cardillo & Co. Griffin is no baby. His voice is nothing short of fantastic and perfect for this lovely pre-winter transition. You can snatch up the album on itunes, but in the mean time pop over to their soundcloud page to give it a listen. Here are some of my favourites:

1. The Great Deal of Love

2.  Safe for all Seasons

3. Pretty Young Blood

But seriously, I love them all. Enjoy ❤

VNA Sale Prep/ SoundCloud Souviner/ Miscellaneous Madness

6 Oct

September disappeared faster then the summer, the transition rearing the ugly heads of academics, and responsibility. But now October is in full swing and has it many redeeming qualities worth note! For one the first weekend of every October gifts us with the extremely exciting VNA Rummage Sale! For those who don’t know the rummage sale is a massive vintage/second hand extravaganza featuring clothes, furniture, jewelry, art, electronics and more! One of my fondest memories of my freshman year of high school, is my dear friend Jeff pretending to be my father calling me out of school, and taking me to my first VNA sale. As always I will be keeping my eye out for soccer jerseys, NY Jets Gear, and this year I really want to get my hands on a dope robe for protection from after shower chills.

Here’s me in an epic Jets Hat & Sweatshirt combo my buddy Brett(pictured in the mirror)  from a 2 years ago!

Another extraordinary October offering, is pumpkin. Pumpkin anything. Pie, coffee, candles, and deserts. But for me personally this equals pumpkin beer, and this year I have been trying to get my greedy little mitts on all the pumpkin beer I can in an attempt to establish a clear favorite. So far the Post Road Pumpkin Ale and The Southern Tier Pumpking(get it!) Imperial Ale are neck and neck for that top spot. Feel free to send me any suggestions or recommendations, because while I know I tried a lot, I know I haven’t tried them all.

Yummmmmmmmmm in my Tummmmmmmmmmmm

Thirdly as a weaker SoundCloud Souvenir this week(weaker in the fact I lumped it into this Jennyesq post, not due to the content of the souvenir),  a band I have gushed over before on this blog , Real Estate, and the newest song “Green Aisles” off there soon to be released full length LP Days. A less bubbly more reflective track displaying there emotional depth and songwriting range. Basically this band is fucking great, I really enjoyed all the projects the members where apart of before forming Real Estate, and lately they been hitting the nail on the head for me. I hope you love it as much as I have and will continue to.

As Always

One Love

SoundCloud Souviner – Sun Araw and High Wolf

29 Sep

Sun Araw has swiftly vaulted himself in to the upper echelon of psychedelic tune makers and internet buzz creators.  If you are unfamiliar with his work, he is extremely well versed in his musical exploration jumping from drugged out spiritual jams to afrocentric dub inspired tracks, here is a small sample of what you can expect as he tweeted a link to jam, entitled “Shrine Time” he did with France’s psychedelic diplomat to the world, High Wolf, enjoy.

SoundCloud Souvenir – Slime

7 Sep

This a concept for a post I have wanted to do for a while now, featuring a link to, and tunes of a musician’s soundcloud page that I am really feeling.  I hope to make SoundCloud Souvenir a regular occurrence on the Brainbow(one a week maybe?). So it only be fitting that I start with the artist that inspired me with this concept , U.K. Producer, Slime.

In the vast technological landscape of cheaper, easier to use audio equipment that doesn’t compromise quality, accompanied by the modern plethora of software and other accessible means to record your own tracks, any pea brain can string together a couple of layered loops and call themselves a “producer”.  Unfortunately they are just producers of uninspired garbage lacking any musical depth or emotional reference. Similar to the douches we all knew(and maybe still know) who formed shitty rock bands in the late 1990’s early 2000’s, compiling three chord riffs joined by cliched lyrics all in an attempt to get laid.

Slim is everything these internet dweebs are not. Slime is the solo project of 19 year old Brit, Will Archer, whose musical talents transcend the keyboard and mouse game,  and reaches a much more advanced level of approach to electronically produced music. His skill with rhythm is clearly evident, as you’ll hear, his beats are not overly convoluted striving for unnecessary complexities, rather achieving a much more mature depth in his exquisite execution. Archer’s sound is extremely cohesive utilizing a collection of instruments, ranging from guitars and drums to sax, flute, and clarinet, all which he plays himself.  The Slime motif is evident, and there is clearly a lot of space for him to grow. I am so glad I caught him early in his career, and look forward to his future releases with great anticipation. How could you not, when the potential for this kid to reach genius heights is so blatantly evident.  Here’s my favorite track on his recently released Increases EP.

Find Slime on Facebook, Twitter, and order his record here.
