All that glitters

22 Sep

I LOVE April March

I just found out she was a principal animator on Ren & Stimpy for a while, which makes me like her even more.

I ripped off the gemstones on my nails last night to try out the look Essie did for Pamela Love’s ss 2012 show

I’m craving shoes right now. MILLIONS OF SHOES. I was swapping out my summer shoes with some fall shoes last night and suddenly my closet turned black. So I’m looking to add a little variety this year. Just because my ‘tude is dark when the weather cools doesn’t mean my shoes have to be. I’d really like to add some color and texture. I want glitter, velvet, and suede.

Weekend Re-Cap

23 Aug

Where has August gone? It’s seriously the 23rd already?! Seeing as how summer is coming to an abrupt end, I’ve been trying to pack as much into my weekends as possible. Luckily I kept my summer to-do list pretty short and realistic, so I feel good about what I’ve been able to accomplish in these three short months. Aside from spending as much time on the beach as possible, my main goal this summer was to get on a boat. Unfortunately I don’t know anyone who has one, but my friend Matt has a canoe (that kind of counts right?)

Supposedly this is a one person canoe – but we proved that theory wrong.

Our canoeing skills were pretty solid, considering we somehow didn’t tip this thing over. We did wind up making a lot of accidental circles…Let me put it this way – If canoescapades was an Olympic event, I’m confident that we would have at least walked away with a bronze metal.

Here was the nail situ for the weekend:

Maybe I’ll properly clean my fingers before I photograph my nails one of these days. I really wanted to try a fade technique, but you really need a cosmetic sponge to do this right. The closest thing I could find in my house were these weirdo rod curlers my mom bought me for Christmas like, circa 2002 that I never had the heart to throw away. They are kiiindaa foamy, so I took some scissors to them and did my best with the resources I had. That nail polish looks awesome, right? IT SUCKS. (Justing Beiber “One less lonely girl” collection for Nicole by OPI. The color itself is called “step to the beat of my heart). It will take you an hour to get ONE heart out of that bottle.

(Lotus the dog dying for me to throw her ball)

One of my favorite places in New Jersey is the Dover Antique Center. Not only is it across the street from one of the best Salvation Army stores in the world, AND close to countless authentic Mexican restaurants, but it is filled with some of the coolest and most random things. I can always find something I can’t leave behind. Here’s one of the things I walked out with:

My new favorite print. (Can’t remember who it’s by..all I can remeber is the date -1977)

Here’s the current nail situ:

One more thing I wanted to share with you – I love these guided hairstyle guides from Refinery 29. I tried this one out this weekend and LOVED it..

I feel like I’ve been wearing a top knot all summer long so it felt refreshing to jazz it up a little bit. I’m still having issues mastering the fishtail braid (another item on my summer to-do list), but I haven’t given up, and summers not over just yet.

Getting Ready for Vacation

18 Jul

First, let’s go over the weekend..

nail situ: I didn’t clean my cuticles before I shot this, sorry, I’m not sorry. I used Essie’s “Borrowed & Blue” from the 2011 Wedding Collection as the base. To get the drip effect I let the polish collect a bit at the bottom of the drip and brushed it back towards the tip of the nail. Then I connected them across the tip like you would a french manicure.

I seriously cannot get anything done with ^this in my room.

Luckily I have Paula Abdul Dance Mixes in my record collection, which was on full blast to get us pumped for our ride to Seaside Heights. (Which was an epic shit-show..would you expect anything less?) I was too distracted by drinking to take a lot of photos, but I did manage to capture the aftermath in the morning:

Massive headache..check. Sunglasses I found in Matt’s car missing one arm…check. Wearing new favorite shirt…check. All in all a pretty successful venture.

This Friday I’m heading to Topsail, North Carolina.

I’m so exited, I made this checklist:

What I’m not exited about is the fact that this 10-year-old girl was bitten by a shark at Topsail Beach in 3 1/2 feet of water on July 1st.  Last year a 13-year-old girl was bitten twice before she made it out of the water. A few days later someone snapped a picture of this bull shark in the ocean..

I should probably stop googling this topic or I’m not going in the ocean at all.

I leave you with these

Soooooo good! Found on Shlooby Kitten

XOXOXOXO

It’s All Happening

14 Jun

Ordered more fun from MiniatureSweet yesterday….

New nails..

Really not the greatest pictures.  Sowwy (it’s pretty hard taking pictures of your own hands)

I LOVE the lookbook for Wildfox’s Fall 2011 collection. Here are some of my favorite images..

Inspired by Almost Famous, what I really love about this shoot is the story behind the images. I chose these above images because they have cinematic, film-still quality. I’m haunted by some of these pictures and to me that is what makes an effective advertisement. In the past Wildfox has featured some pretty over-modeled look books (seriously, I don’t care about how pouty and beautiful the girl is wearing the clothes. I care about the CLOTHES) but these images convey a feeling, and it’s a great one. Can’t wait to see what they do next.
